What Is The Mystery Of Shiva Linga

Shiva Linga           In Hindus, you can find the trinity of Gods as you can see in Christianity. Hindu trinity Gods are Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. If you go to any Shiva temple you could find a shapeless rock which is worshipped as Lord Shiva. This is very different from the other Brahma or Vishnu temple. In other Brahma and Vishnu temples, you could find beautiful sculptures of gods. But in most of the famous Shiva temples, a shapeless rock is worshipped as Lord Shiva.   The Twelve Shiva Linga worshipped in India           This rock is called Shiva Linga. It is considered to be an abstract representation of Lord Shiva. The first evidence of this Shiva Linga was found in Mohenjodaro. These Shiva Lingas are dated to sometime around 2300 BCE. Maa Durga           Yesterday we have talked about the rituals of Maha Sasthi of Durga Puja. Today is the seventh day of Durga Puja. It is called Maha Saptami. Various rituals are also performed on this day.                      The main ritual of this day is Kola Bou Snan (bathing of the banana plant). In the early morning the day starts by bathing the banana plant in the holy water. Kola Bou Snan             The Banana plantain with another eight plants is tied with the twigs of white Aparajita plant (Butterfly Pea). Then it is bathed in the holy water. In Kolkata it is performed in the Ganga. Then a traditional Bengali saree is draped on it.                          If you visit any Durga puja Pandal, you will see a banana plant draped in red white saree placed by the side of Lord Ganesha.         Maa Durga              Today is the sixth day after Mahalaya. Although Durga puja starts from Mahalaya but for Bengali’s it starts from the sixth day after Mahalaya. According to Bengali culture, Goddess Durga arrives on earth on this day.           There are many interesting rituals which are performed on this day. The people of Bengal worship Goddess Durga as a daughter. On Maha Sasthi (sixth day of Devi Paksha) goddess Durga comes to her father’s house from Kailash (House of Lord Shiva) with her two sons Lord Ganesha and Lord Kartik and her two daughters Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswati.           The rituals that are performed on this day are:                                  Kalparamva (The Beginning of the Puja)                                                                  Bodhan (The Consecration of Maa Durga)                                                    Amantran (Inviting the Goddess) .                                     Adhib
