This
hospital was located in Ararat, a rural city of Australia. The original name of
this hospital was “Ararat Lunatic Asylum”. This hospital was set up to
accommodate the lunatics in the colony of Victoria.
The
construction of this hospital began in 1864. It was designed by G. W. Vivian
and John James Clark. The asylum was built as a town within a town. It had its
own market, gardens, orchard, vineyards within its complex.
The
hospital started in 1867. It had almost 500 staffs and more than 2000 patients.
Not only people with mental disabilities, but autistic people were also brought
there for medical treatment. Besides, criminals were also brought in the
asylum.
They
used electric shock treatment for mental patients. They also use brutal
treatments like Lobotomy for the schizophrenia patients. Many patients die
because of this brutal treatment, even some of them committed suicide.

all the 60 buildings in the asylum, the ‘J Ward’ building was known for housing
the most infamous patients of this asylum.
It
is said that one of the patients named Wallace shot a friend of him over an
argument about a cigarette. Another story about this place is, a patient Gary
Webb had mutilated his body over 70 times.

to the visitors, they have reported to have real supernatural experiences in
this hospital. There is a particular room in this hospital that leaves visitors
with the feeling of nausea and dizziness.

The superintendent’s office is also known as being haunted. The superintendent was reported to suicide after swallowing Hydrogen Cyanide. The actual identity of the superintendent is still unknown, but according to the reports that could be Dr. William L. Mullen who died in 1912. Visitors experience a bitter taste while walking by his office.
